Sports development is of greatest value to people who are in the most active stage of life. Africa is a relatively young continent with an average age of 18 (19 in Sierra Leone) versus averages of 35 and 42 for North America and Europe. This youthfulness of the population implies sports development will be relatively more impactful here than elsewhere.
It is self evident that the African Diaspora has made a disproportionate contribution to almost every major sporting discipline in the world. Therefore, it is logical to assume that the ancestral continent of that diaspora is itself a repository of talent.
Finally, the deficiency in quality sports facilities makes Sierra Leone ideal for sports development programs. For instance, within the Makama community, StarBurst Park is the sole source for basketball, volleyball, and racket sport facilities. Within the greater Makeni area we represent one of only two functional tennis courts and one of only three functional basketball courts.
This severe scarcity of facilities implies that the introduction of a sports program will have a strong value-add for the community.
